Leigh Tiffin, a celebrated former Alabama football player, has officially resigned from his position as president of Tiffin Motorhomes. The company, based in Red Bay, announced his departure on Thursday, stating he's moving on to "pursue an important personal career opportunity."
For those who might not know, Leigh Tiffin isn't just any former athlete; he was the place kicker for the Alabama Crimson Tide from 2006 to 2009. He was a key player on Nick Saban's very first national championship team in Tuscaloosa. His football legacy is deeply intertwined with his family's, as he is the son of kicker Van Tiffin and the grandson of the company's esteemed founder, Bob Tiffin.
The company has confirmed that a successor for Leigh Tiffin has not yet been appointed. In a clear statement, Tiffin Motorhomes emphasized, "We would like to clarify that Leigh was not terminated from Tiffin Motorhomes." Instead, they explained, "He chose to pursue a new opportunity with (National Indoor RV Centers), and we wish him the very best in his new role."
Leigh Tiffin himself shared that the decision was a difficult one. He expressed, "I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished and especially proud of the way Tiffin has grown stronger since our acquisition by THOR Industries." He added, "I truly believe the future is incredibly bright for Tiffin, and I’ll always be cheering for the team and the brand."
But here's where it gets interesting for those familiar with the company's structure: the Tiffin family's influence remains strong. Bob Tiffin, the founder, continues to be actively involved, and Van Tiffin is serving as the company's senior advisor of manufacturing. CEO Bob Martin highlighted this continuity, stating the brand "will continue to benefit from strong Tiffin family influence through Bob Tiffin, who remains actively engaged, and through Van Tiffin, whose leadership at the company continues to define the quality, innovation, and customer focus that have made Tiffin one of the most respected names in the industry."
For context, THOR Industries acquired Tiffin Motorhomes in 2020. This transition comes shortly after another significant announcement: on February 5th, the company revealed plans to lay off 139 employees at its Winfield facility due to a consolidation, with these changes set to begin on May 12th.
