Benedetta Boscaro, an Italian swimmer with a bright future, has chosen Virginia Tech as her academic and athletic home starting in 2027. She expressed her excitement, saying, "I'm beyond thrilled to commit to Virginia Tech. I'm grateful to Coaches Sergio and Mason for this opportunity, and to my family, friends, and teammates for their unwavering support. I can't wait to embark on this incredible adventure and become a Hokie!"
Boscaro represents Italy on the international stage, swimming for Team Veneto. Her impressive performances include a 5th-place finish in the 100 backstroke at the European Junior Championships, where she set a personal best of 1:01.42. She also brought home a gold medal in the girls' 4x100 medley relay, leading off with a strong 1:01.98 split. Later, at the World Junior Championships in Romania, she placed 19th in the 100 back and 22nd in the 200 back, showcasing her versatility.
Her best times in the Long Course Meter (LCM) format, with conversions to the Short Course Yards (SCY) format, are impressive: 100 back in 1:01.42 (54.25 SCY) and 200 back in 2:15.74 (2:00.12 SCY). These times highlight her potential and the impact she could have on the Virginia Tech women's swim team.
The Virginia Tech women's team finished a strong 9th out of 15 teams at the 2025 ACC Championships, led by Carmen Weiler Sastre, who scored an impressive 69 individual points. Weiler Sastre, who represents Spain internationally, made the 'A' final in both backstroke events, finishing 5th in the 200 back and 6th in the 100 back. Boscaro's arrival in 2027 will create a seamless transition, as Weiler Sastre is currently a senior with the Hokies.
Boscaro will join a talented class of 2031, including Jillian Wiersema, Claire Roussakis, and Margot Levesque. This incoming class promises to bring fresh energy and talent to the team.
And here's where it gets controversial... What impact do you think Boscaro's commitment will have on the Virginia Tech women's swim team? Will her arrival inspire a new era of success? Share your thoughts in the comments! We'd love to hear your predictions and insights on this exciting development.
